Daughters & Sons, Le Ly Hayslip, "When Heaven And Earth Changed Places"-THEME

This chapter talks about family and how younger generations are experiencing the war at a different levels. One THEME in this book is death. This war is causing many deaths. Le Ly writes, "In a way, Ky La had spawned its own 'lost generations': brothers and sisters who had never known love, family rituals, and peace- only terror, starvation, and war. I wondered how many would know how to survive when the shooting finally stopped"(239). This quote has a strong message about what evil, which is the war, has done to the country of Vietnam. Ky La, the village Le Ly and her family lived in, was no longer like the home they once know. There is evil in the village just like in today's world, where the war is or has been there is also evil. War is a powerful and dangerous thing for the people that around or in the war. This chapter explains how daughters and sons are experiencing a whole different world from their parents. There are generations that are not longer living because of the war. This is still happening in today's world and will always happen as long as we have evil in the world.
